Sign Up to Volunteer Now!

Volunteer to bring the Julia Robinson Math Festival (JRMF) for the first time to Orlando and Central Florida. Volunteering for JRMF inspires creativity, curiosity in problem solving and inspiration to pursue STEM through further inquiry. Most importantly it shows students the beautiful side of mathematics that most have never experienced, thus helping to change negative attitudes that plague many of our students. Be a change maker, inspire others, volunteer!

About Julia Robinson Math festival

Mission Statement

About Julia Robinson Mathematics Festival (JRMF) Mission Statement Julia Robinson Mathematics Festival supports locally organized events that inspire K–12 students to think critically, to explore the richness and beauty of mathematics through collaborative, creative problem-solving. Our Festivals engage many types of students, including those who don’t enjoy competition or working under time pressure. A Festival is also a community event, bringing together institutions and organizations as their constituents celebrate mathematics. More popular every year since its first event at Google in 2007, the JRMF flourishes because of dedicated mentors, volunteers, and community support. In particular, we’re grateful to founding host the Mathematical Sciences Research Institute (MSRI). We are also thankful to American Institute of Mathematics (AIM), which since 2013 has been providing resources and support as we seek to bring the Festival to more kids.

Julia Robinson Table activities were:

Exploding Dots
Mondrian
Wolves and Sheep
Skyscrapers
Geometiles
Towers of Hanoi
Criss Cross Puzzles
Sets
Random Walks

Geometiles

You will find that some of the activities are repeated and separated by a dashed line. This is done so you can cut along the dashed line and save some paper by getting two or more copies of the problem on one page. These activities assume you have a Jumbo set of Geometiles with 512 pieces in it. The attached spreadsheet has some suggestions on how you may want to split up the pieces into bins, so that each bin is a “station” with associated activities. Think of the spreadsheet as a place to start. You are free to improve on it or abandon it altogether.

Big thank you to Julia Robinson Math Festival for sponsoring our first math festival and to all of our wonderful volunteers who helped make this happen!
Our student participants didn’t want to leave and our volunteers are excited for more service opportunities like this one.
